Playing Catch (-up)
Hi everyone!
We had another busy week. It's Sunday morning, and I'm just relaxing on the couch with some coffee. Ted is already gone to staff duty, so I'm on my own. I have a long list of things to do today, to include cleaning the house! I'm not good at working AND cooking and cleaning. I think my sleep schedule is just so messed up that I'm too tired to do it when I get home from work. Things around here are definitely not up to par with how the house looked when I wasn't working. Oh well!
Ted's team (the Outlaws or the Nighthhawks, depending on who you ask) won their softball game again on Wednesday. They are still undefeated! I enjoy watching the games, but the mosquitoes are treacherous in the evenings.
Friday night we had a leaders' dinner and had a great time with friends from Ted's work. Saturday we ran some errands and Ted had softball practice. We also test drove a '99 cougar (we desperately need a 2nd car- Ted's 4 wheeler isn't so great to ride to work). It wasn't worth what the guy wanted for it, and made bad noises any time you turned the wheel to the left. Plus he had a gazillion air fresheners inside and I was choking, and the dash board was all chewed up. So we passed on that one. Hopefully something else comes up soon! After that we drove to Vilseck to go to a little sports store they have. Ted's been borrowing a ball glove, so he needed to find one of his own. Somehow his glove didn't make it here in the move. It was hard to find one big enough for him- I think they mainly sell youth gloves. Then I saw this really cute pink and black glove, and decided I better get one, too. So we bought a softball and spent some time that afternoon playing catch. It quickly became obvious that I never really learned the fundamentals of catch. Ted throws the ball, and no matter how hard I try not to, I dance away from it and shut my eyes, as if death itself were flying through the air at me. Needless to say, I can't catch much that way. We had fun anyway, and I'm working on stomping out my instincts. I will never let anyone but Ted see me play catch though, because it's quite embarrassing.
I think that's about it so far this weekend. Oh, my new camera came last week! I didn't have time to even get it out of the box until this weekend, but now I've been playing with it some. I'm going to have to practice with it a lot more, because I'm pretty shaky (it claims to have vibration reduction, so I must be REALLY bad) and things seem blurry. I'm sure it's the operator and not the camera. I can't wait to get out and take some more pictures! I need to get the photo editing software going, too. The camera didn't come with any, but Ted got ahold of something from a friend I might try.
Anyway, I better clean up my coffee cake breakfast. I made it out of a box this time (Krusteaz cinnamon crumb cake) and it wasn't very good. I better stick to my own coffee cake. Ted calls it Scrum Cake instead of crumb cake- guess he didn't think it was very good, either. We managed to eat a lot of it, though!
Until next time...

A beatiful Monday-- and we get to stay home!!
We woke up early this morning to the noise of the public works trucks all working in the yard behind our house. After all, it's not a German holiday (they had Ascension Day on Thursday, so they got a holiday too). Actually we first got woken up by the firehouse siren in the middle of the night. We live right next to the fire station, and sleep with the windows open, so it was loud! Our landlord is the fire chief, and his son is on the department, so people downstairs were running around like crazy. I was impressed, Karl made it out the door in about two seconds flat. His son (It's either Andreas or Thomas, I'm not sure) needed some screaming from his mother (Elvira) to be coaxed upstairs from his bedroom in the basement. Then we heard the fire truck screech out and down the street with the sirens blaring. Then we heard Ted receive ten emails on his phone, because he doesn't turn it off. All I can say after all that is thank goodness we aren't working today!
We've had a nice weekend. Friday I had to work and Ted did not, but he had Leader's Patrol at 10 until 3 a.m. I was wiped out, so as soon as he went out the door I was sound asleep. Saturday morning Ted slept in and we got ready to go to Munich at lunch time. It was a nice drive, and we made it to the hotel just fine. I went upstairs to put some makeup on and I sent Ted around the corner to the U-Bahn station to get some Euro, and pretty soon I get a phone call from him. He never made it back, he was outside on the beer garden enjoying a cold one. I got some sparkling hard cider (delicious!) and we waited for our friends to get there. They were stuck at a standstill stop on the autobahn- I guess there was a car fire. No accident- it just burnt to a crisp on the side of the road. Everyone was out of their cars wandering around. They showed us a picture later of the four of them playing "washers" on the autobahn. It's pretty funny, because normally people are driving 120k and higher in the same spot.
Once everyone got there, we decided to go look for food. We took the U-Bahn (it's like the metro) to downtown Munich (or Munchen, as the Germans spell it) and found the Hard Rock Cafe. The food was decent, but definitely pricey. The we made our way to the Hofbrau Haus (world-famous, I guess) and settled in for some good drinks and conversation. It was definitely some good people-watching! The waitresses are all dressed up in traditional German attire, and one of the guys insisted they were called "beer wenches-" non-derogatory, of course. They were also selling these giant salted pretzels bigger than my head, but I was warned that you couldn't even bite into it so I didn't try it.
Then one of our friends led us to a club, where Ted and I and the other couple paid an 8 euro cover charge basically just to use the bathroom. We discovered the pulsing music was much too loud for our taste. We are old and married I guess! The four of us sat outside on the patio and waited for the other two to have their fun. We had some good laughs, though. One of the girls is deploying next week, so it was great to see her again before she goes.
Then next morning we got up, and our friends called us down to breakfast. It was just a Holiday Inn, so we weren't sure what to expect. Ted was kind of hesitant, and I later figured out why. The breakfast buffet was 19 euro... EACH! I tell you, I did NOT eat 19 euros worth of food.
You might be wondering if we went and saw the sights in Munich. Well, no. We'll have to go back another day. There's a whole list of things I want to see: Dachau Concentration Camp, maybe the Olympic Stadium, and I guess the rest of it that I really want to see is outside Munich. The Nueschwanstein Castle is about an hour out, and it's very beautiful. It wasn't voted in to the 7 wonders of the world, but it was close, so they advertise it as the 8th wonder. I also wouldn't mind going on in to Austria and checking out the scenery there. So, needless to say, we have to make a trip back down there. It's only 2-2.5 hours from here, so it's too easy.
Now, the reason we could not go to any of these places on Sunday is because I could not see. I wear daily contacts, and Saturday night I threw out the pair I had been wearing all day. I had packed 2 pair for each eye, just in case. I went to put them in Sunday morning, and I had grabbed 4 pair, all the same prescription! The prescriptions for my eyes are drastically different. I toyed with the idea of putting one contact in and creating a patch for the other, but obviously decided against that one pretty fast. We just went home, in a blurry car ride that left me feeling quite carsick because I couldn't focus on anything! I will probably bring glasses everywhere from now on!
Anyway, that got very long- it's probably got way too many details. Sorry for the lack of pictures AGAIN but my camera still isn't here. If it's not here by Wednesday I will probably throw a fit. I hope you are all enjoying your day off! We love and miss you!

Sunday night wind-down
Hi everyone. It's Sunday night again- time to start preparing for another week. I had drill Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I stayed pretty busy- Friday my unit ran a 9mm (pistol) range and I spent a good chunk of the day shoving rounds into magazines until my fingers couldn't take it anymore. I did get to fire the last 2 tables of the day, though, so that was fun. Saturday was the M-16 (rifle) range and I was one of the lucky ones who rode out on the first early morning convoy to occupy the range. I zeroed and qualified right away, but others weren't as lucky, and we ended up staying out at the range all day waiting for people to hit the targets. I finally made it home at about 8 pm, and Ted had dinner and a movie waiting for me! He made shish-kabobs on the grill with pork, bacon, and mushrooms- very tasty!! The night before he made delicious shrimp and scallops. He makes the BEST scallops! Today people who didn't qualify with their rifles yesterday had to suck it up and go back out to try again. I got tasked to print awards all day, so I didn't have to go. Rather, I sat in the office with a broken computer and a broken printer and did my thing. I'm pleased to say I got it all done, beautifully, and published 8 award orders today. I got home a little before 5, and Ted and I ate dinner and went for a little drive to enjoy the awesome weather. We ended up at the base of a mountain that had a tower on top- we were already there, so we decided to climb it. I was in flip-flops, but I couldn't resist the chance to see what was at the top! It took me a while, but the view was spectacular! The sun rays were shining down on the farm landscape, and it was inspiring. Ted ordered us a camera today, so when it comes, we'll go back. I made it back down the mountain safely, sometimes in flip-flops, and sometimes barefoot. Ted also spied the biggest slug we have ever seen. It was massive. I just wanted to squish him because he was so plump, but I poked him a bit with a stick and flicked him back into the woods.
I am almost afraid to go back to work tomorrow because I was gone on Friday, and the ladies don't know how to run the computer program we use-- they just take sticky notes and envelopes of money and leave it for me to figure out-- and trust me, I barely know more than the do! I've managed to figure it out in the mornings though (the afternoon shift doesn't know how to run stuff either) so I imagine tomorrow will be okay. Ted's softball game actually isn't until Wednesday, so I should get some time tomorrow afternoon to relax. Ted's way ahead of me in Super Mario World now, so I need to play catch-up. Luckily he took the initiative to clean the floors, surfaces, and dishes today, so all I need to do is laundry. :) Do I have the best husband or what!!??
Better wind down for the night. Thanks for stopping by. We love you and miss you!

It's been a while...
Sorry I haven't been keeping you all up to date. Things have been very busy. By the time I get settled in at home, I have time to pick up the mess, do some laundry and dishes, and get my stuff ready for tomorrow-- and nothing else. Welcome to the working world, I guess, huh?! :)
Work is going pretty well, and I enjoy it. Some things have been complicated since I haven't actually been trained, but I've been muddling through and haven't messed anything up...yet. I don't mind getting up at 4:15 after the first ten minutes or so. When that alarm first goes off it scares the crap out of me- I think my body hasn't even begun to wake up yet at that time, and it shocks me!
Ted has started softball on the company team. They had a scrimmage last night and a game tonight. He's doing a good job, and they have fun. He's a good hitter. :) They make him be catcher quite a bit, though, and that's boring for him. Their next game is Monday.
It's been chilly and raining. Ted is not liking riding the four-wheeler to PT every morning, cause it's very cold (and usually raining). A new car will probably be in the works, but he has his heart set on a truck and it seems nothing else will do. ;) Not too many trucks for sale over here.
I have drill this weekend Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. No rest for the weary! You probably won't hear from me again until Monday. Maybe if Ted is bored he'll fill in, but I'm not sure he will be willing to give it another shot. Until then, love you all; good night!

Tulip Time advice
I had a busy day at my first day of work today. I have a lot to learn in the few days left until my coworker goes on leave to the states. So far so good, though. We'll see how I like it tomorrow morning at 4:30!!
I included a couple pictures, since this isn't going to be a long post. That makes up for it! The top one is Mr. Knust checking out a beautiful sunset out his "office" window. The bottom one is me decked out in my new gear that Ted put together for me. He's a good husband!
Time to set out my clothes for tomorrow and get a lunch together! Hope you're all doing well. Have a good night!

Another week goes by
Well, here it is, Sunday again. We had a busy week, and a nice weekend. I've been in to work to do some training, and will continue to train tomorrow. The girl who is leaving the position heads out Friday, but I'm pretty sure I'll have a good handle on the job by then.
This weekend was nice, though it seems like it was over before it began! Friday night was pretty uneventful- sometimes you just gotta hang out on the couch. Saturday I went shopping with Tracy, and while I tried on armloads of clothes, I only found a few things. I think I'm just going to have to learn the tricks of online shopping! I bought some new sandals today- shoes are always easy.
Ted went out for a long 4-wheeler ride on Saturday. We couldn't ask for nicer weather. I was sitting in the sun this afternoon while Ted did "4-wheeler maintenance" and I was quite hot! Last night we went to a nice little German gasthof for some schnitzel and pommes (pan fried pork and fries) and then we walked up to the local bar to sit out on the patio and enjoy the night air. A friend of ours joined us and we had a nice time.
We messed around the house today, and Ted even got in a little nap, but it got interrupted by calls from work- that's never fun on a Sunday! He's making up for it with a little Playstation now. I don't get into the video games, but I really like our Wii. We tried to download the old Super Mario World on our Wii today (Matt and I used to play that game on our super nintendo :) but we don't have the right controller. Of course, the px didn't have it either. I actually drove to town just to buy the controller, but I came home with a jar of salsa instead. I don't know why I'm surprised they didn't have it. The px and commissary have been out of my brand of razors for a long time, and a couple days ago the actual razor part broke into a million pieces while I was shaving. I called Ted in and handed him 16 soapy pieces, hoping he could fix it so I could finish shaving, but it had just crumbled. Schick quattro. I would boycott it forever if I hadn't just bought a new pack of blades-- those things aren't cheap. Anyway, all that, just to say the px never has what I want! I adjusted fire and bought the stupid Venus. I'm sure my next shave will be just divine.
Don't forget, next Sunday is Mother's Day (the 10th), so start shopping now! Just thought I'd throw that in there. Even if Matt and Liz aren't reading this, they will get their customary present-buying reminder! :0) That's what big sisters are for.
Speaking of presents, our anniversary is in a few weeks, and I haven't decided if we are going to get each other gifts or not. The ball is in my court on this one, and I'm leaning towards just a weekend getaway or a nice dinner instead. I do love presents, though, so we'll just have to see. I've always got a list prepared to give Ted, in case any special occasion should arise. You can still be surprised, if your list is big enough!
Oh, and happy May Day a few days late. I was remembering making May Day baskets with candy in them, and Mom would drive us up to DeHaan's so we could quick drop them off- and then run away so we didn't get kissed! The other memory I keep having lately is of making Matt play "house" with me out on the lawn. We have two big trees in the yard that have branches that hang pretty low to the ground in the summer, and one of the trees was my "house" and the other was Matt's. I'd drag doll stuff and kitchen stuff and all kinds of stuff out to set up under the canopy of leaves. Matt probably doesn't remember, but I do! Liz wasn't old enough to play with us yet, but don't worry, Liz, I remember playing with you too!
Anyway, the night is winding down and it's time to settle in with some decaf coffee and a book. Sorry I haven't been full of interesting stories lately. I'm not sure if we just haven't had many interesting scenarios or my writing is going downhill-- either way, sorry if i've bored you to tears! We miss you all!
